Matt is a proud resident of Downtown Kitchener, an Urban Planner, and a Regional Councillor who knows that the decisions made over the next four years on housing, water infrastructure, and transit, will shape our community’s legacy for decades. Matt believes that we need to tackle the issues of today, while keeping our sights set on the future.

Matt spent years visiting family in Waterloo Region as a child and always felt a connection to the urban-rural dynamic and strong sense of community, and when he started his undergrad at the University of Waterloo, that’s when his connection began to deepen. Matt quickly fell in love with all that a growing Waterloo Region had to offer, including vibrant urban cores and a forward-thinking vision, and would often be found riding the bus to Kitchener to explore a new store or spend an afternoon at a coffee shop.

As someone who rents in Downtown Kitchener with his partner Eric, and relies on transit and cycling to get around, Matt understands and experiences the barriers many in our community face when accessing important Regional services. You’ll find Matt at many local events throughout the year and every Saturday at the Kitchener Farmers’ Market – come say hi!

Since joining Regional Council in March 2025, Matt has quickly demonstrated his commitment to putting priorities into action – advocating for Kitchener, navigating change, and tackling issues big and small, together. Here’s some ways how.

With experience working as an Urban Planner across Ontario, Matt understands what it takes to plan a great region, engage those typically left out of the discussion, and foster connected neighbourhoods.

Matt was one of the founding members of the new Downtown Kitchener Neighbourhood Association and has been a relentless advocate for safe streets. He has enthusiastically participated in many local initiatives, including championing the pedestrianization of Gaukel Street and efforts to boost Downtown nightlife.

We are coming door to door to meet with residents, businesses and community leaders. I look forward to our discussions and hearing what is on your mind. Please reach out to the team to schedule a chat and learn more about our campaign.
With gratitude,
Matt.
