Advocating for Kitchener, navigating change, and tackling issues big and small, together.

When I first ran for Regional Council in 2022, I laid out a values-based platform based on priorities we share. Here are some highlights from my time on Regional Council of motions passed, projects advanced, investments made, and commitments kept.

Not every challenge has been solved, and there’s still a lot of work ahead, but I believe you deserve to see examples of the progress made by putting priorities into action – advocating for Kitchener, navigating change, and tackling issues big and small, together:

Keeping you moving in snowy weather

Keeping bus stops and roads clear from snow is a service that everyone counts on to get to work, school, or appointments. To keep us accountable to this work and respond to your feedback, Council supported a motion that I introduced in May to establish annual reporting on winter maintenance service. Just last month, Council also supported direction that I brought forward to improve bus stop snow clearing.

Investing in safer school zones

Despite the cancellation of automated speed enforcement, we must continue our commitment to safer school zones on busy Regional Roads. Council supported a motion that I brought forward to continue this conversation and invest in road safety projects starting this season.

Advocating for affordable housing

Expanding housing capacity across existing sites in the Region remains a key part of our strategy to deliver more affordable homes. At the same time, the redevelopment of new affordable housing on Mooregate Drive has been postponed to uphold responsible fiscal management and address rising costs. This follows a motion that I brought forward to Council in Fall 2025 asking staff to bring forward a plan to deliver the more than 300 units of housing the community needs and deserves. Unfortunately, continued cost pressures -- including other major capital projects like a new emergency services communications centre, has meant the Mooregate Drive project continues to be postponed. I continue to meet with and advocate for the residents of Mooregate Drive that have been displaced and those on the housing waitlist who will directly benefit from new units being built.

As we continue the process to redevelop the Charles Street Transit Terminal site, I championed keeping portions of the site in public ownership and developing specific targets for affordable and non-market housing on the site that our community so desperately needs.

Getting ready for waste collection changes

While I support the goal of making producers responsible for recycling collection, the transfer of this responsibility away from the Region has introduced unnecessary complexity for residents seeking clear, reliable information about a core service. That’s why I was pleased to have Council’s support for a motion I brought forward to have staff work collaboratively on a shared collection calendar, giving you the information you need in one place.

Showcasing our local nuclear sector and levelling the energy playing field

This past fall, I had the chance to tour some of the many businesses in our community that lead the way in the nuclear and isotope sectors. In my role as Council’s representative on the Southwestern Ontario Isotope Coalition, I’ve gained valuable insights into the leading capabilities of our local workforce, the growing demand for skilled talent, and advancements that position our region at the forefront of clean energy and medical innovation.

I’ve been proud to support the Region’s efforts to level the energy playing field by ending the longstanding subsidy that municipalities across Ontario provide to for-profit natural gas utilities through the use of public land. This is an important step toward ensuring fairness, fiscal responsibility, and energy choice.

Keeping you updated on construction projects

As the Region continues with important infrastructure projects, like the Kitchener Central Transit Hub and major road construction, I am committed to making sure residents know what’s happening and when, and who to contact with concerns.
